The new Iveco S-eWay heavy duty battery electric truck was the centrepiece of Iveco’s product reveal, as the Italian truck builder detailed is plans for zero emission vehicles at its recent Barcelona launch event. The S-eWay is the fruit of the company’s collaboration with Nikola. Scheduled for production in Ulm, Germany, and powered by batteries supplied by, the now Volvo-owned, Proterra, the S-eWay boasts a range of up to 500km under full load and normal working conditions, with rapid charging capabilities.

Iveco has long-been a proponent for gas-powered vehicles and despite the unveiling of the new battery electric vehicle, the company has emphasised the importance of gas, particularly in its ‘bio’ form, as an alternative to diesel for long-distance transportation.

Elsewhere across the Iveco battery electric line-up, the eDaily, Iveco’s battery-electric version of the popular Daily light commercial vehicle, now boasts a range of up to 400km in urban real-world usage, with rapid charging delivering 100km of additional range in just 20 minutes.

Connectivity takes centre stage across the entire range, with standard features for real-time tracking and fleet management. Iveco provides a range of telematic services based on Artificial Intelligence algorithms to enhance productivity and profitability for businesses, with the potential to add up to 4% efficiency to a vehicle, says Iveco.

With the impending General Safety Regulations pushing all truck manufacturers to enhance the saftey features on their vehicles, Iveco has responded with the integration of various Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including a blind spot warning information system, driver drowsiness attention warning, and traffic jam assist.

The launch event also marked the unveiling of a refreshed logo, symbolising, says the company, the “pulse of change” in line with the brand’s dynamism, innovation, and commitment to a new energy future.

“Today, we are opening a new chapter with the Model Year 2024 full range, which demonstrates our ability to ‘be the change.’ This launch is truly electric both for our cutting-edge e-trucks and e-vans, and for the energy that the entire Iveco team is putting behind driving the road of change,” said Luca Sra, President of the Truck Business Unit at Iveco Group.€€
