The first e-truck in operation at DACHSER Netherlands is the Volvo Electric FL 4x2, which serves as a pilot for zero-emission technologies in everyday logistics operations. Having already undergone several weeks of use in Rotterdam, this battery-electric truck now operates from Waddinxveen. Boasting 18 pallet spaces and a payload capacity of six tonnes, the Volvo Electric FL 4x2 offers ample capacity for efficient transportation.

With a range of up to 220 kilometers and access to an e-charging station at DACHSER’s Waddixveen branch, the new Volvo joins another electric truck, a Renault Trucks D Z.E. 16t, painted in a distinctive yellow-blue colour, which has started operatin at the DACHSER site in Zevenaar. This truck, boasting similar range and capacity, is dedicated to handling city deliveries in Arnhem and its surrounding regions.

The drivers and operators of these battery-electric trucks have been equipped with advanced technology, such as modern cameras strategically placed around the vehicles, providing them with a complete view of their surroundings without the hindrance of blind spots. Special training has also been provided to ensure safety, increase efficiency, and acquire technical knowledge.

Under new regulations set to take effect from January 1, 2025, all trucks manufactured after that date must be zero-emission to gain access to zero-emission zones in major Dutch cities. Existing Euro VI trucks up to five years old on January 1, 2025, will be allowed to operate in these zones until January 1, 2030.

Currently, DACHSER operates its Emission-Free Delivery concept in 12 metropolitan regions in Europe, enabling local emission-free deliveries. The company has plans to expand this concept to at least 10 more cities by 2025. Furthermore, DACHSER is actively researching the use of hydrogen trucks for deliveries over longer distances as part of its comprehensive climate protection strategy, indicating a strong commitment to driving sustainable logistics practices across the board.
