MAN Energy solutions and Shell forge strategic partnership to advance decarbonisation solutions

MAN Energy Solutions and Shell have formed a strategic partnership aimed at driving decarbonisation solutions and facilitating the transition to net-zero emissions. The collaboration, outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), seeks to leverage the respective competencies and technologies of the two companies to achieve their climate goals and support their customers’ decarbonisation efforts.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Uwe Lauber, CEO of MAN Energy Solutions, and Allen Pertuit, Vice President Downstream Projects at Shell, in Houston, Texas, on June 27, 2023

Both companies recognise the importance of strong partnerships in driving meaningful change as the world navigates the transition to a net-zero future. By combining their strengths and expertise, MAN Energy Solutions and Shell aim to accelerate the development and deployment of sustainable energy solutions. The partnership specifically focuses on sectors essential to the world economy and aims to provide future-ready technologies to address emissions that are considered difficult to abate.

Shell sees additional opportunities to decarbonise its assets and help customers lower their emissions, particularly in industries such as industry and transport. By exploring hydrogen, biofuels, and Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS), Shell aims to foster the growth of future energy businesses. Collaboration with partners like MAN Energy Solutions is crucial in designing and delivering new business models that cater to the needs of complex, energy-intensive, and hard-to-abate sectors.

The partnership between MAN Energy Solutions and Shell will involve optimising CCUS plants to reduce the costs associated with CO2 capture. This will be achieved through the modularisation and standardisation of CCUS compressor solutions, which will significantly decrease costs and expedite project implementation timelines. The marine industry is another area of focus, where the companies intend to promote the development of sustainable fuel options and integrated digital services. They will also explore collaboration to address methane slip reduction, an important aspect of mitigating environmental impact in the marine sector. Additionally, the companies are committed to developing and providing integrated decarbonisation solutions that help minimize CO2 emissions from their production plants and supply chains, as well as assisting their customers in reducing emissions from their operations.
