Positive reception for next generation FUSO eCanter at Road Transport Expo

The recently unveiled Next Generation FUSO eCanter electric light truck received a warm reception at the Road Transport Expo held in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire. The event showcased the latest model, which comes with enhanced power, efficiency, and an extended range compared to its predecessor.

One of the models on display was the 4S15e variant, featuring a standard 1.7-metre-wide, three-seater cab and a 129kW electric motor. Equipped with an alloy tipping body by Scattolini, the truck boasted a 2,500 mm wheelbase chassis, one of several length options available. The M battery pack installed in this model offers a range of up to 140km.

In contrast to its predecessor, which was a single model with a 7.49-tonne GVW and 3,400mm wheelbase, the Next Generation eCanter offers customers a range of choices. The new lineup includes six wheelbases, spanning from 2,500 to 4,750mm, and gross weights of 4.25, 7.49, or 8.55 tonnes.

The Next Generation eCanter is powered by an electric motor with either 110kW or 129kW, delivering 430Nm of torque. Depending on the wheelbase, the truck offers three different battery pack options: S, M, and L. These batteries utilise lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell technology, ensuring a longer service life and higher usable energy.

The S variant boasts a nominal capacity of 41 kWh and a range of up to 70 kilometers. The M model offers increased parameters, with 83 kWh and 140 kilometers of range. The most powerful L version features a nominal capacity of 124kWh and a potential range of up to 200 kilometers. This range is double that of the previous eCanter. Additionally, recuperation technology further extends the range while minimising charging breaks.

The Next Generation eCanter supports both alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) charging. The charging unit can handle up to 104kW, allowing for DC fast charging from 20% to 80% of capacity in less than 40 minutes, depending on the battery pack size. AC charging (11 and 22kW) takes approximately four to six hours, depending on the battery pack.

James Venables, FUSO GB Head of Future Sustainability, emphasised the new model builds upon the success of its predecessor, which has demonstrated reliability and efficiency across Europe since its launch in 2017. With improved drivelines, extended ranges, and a broader selection of body lengths and weights, the Next Generation eCanter aims to appeal to an even wider range of operators, he said.
