Cenntro Electric, a US-based alternative fuel technology and electric vehicle company, has unveiled its first hydrogen-powered Class 8 Semi Tractor, the LMH864, at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show. The event took place from January 5 to 8, 2023, in Las Vegas.

The LMH864 is a 6x4 semi-tractor, weighing 12-tonnes, that is ideal for both short- and long-haul transportation. It is equipped with high-efficiency hydrogen fuel cells, which generate electricity by converting hydrogen into electric power through a process of combining it with oxygen, producing water as a byproduct. This sustainable technology is perfect for heavy-duty logistics as it provides longer ranges and faster refueling times.

Cenntro Electric’s CEO, Peter Wang, said that the LMH864’s operational range and refueling time are similar to diesel trucks, making it an ideal option for energy-demanding duties and longer distances in areas where battery charging is limited. The vehicle is expected to be available in the third quarter of 2023, and its initial launch will be in North America and Europe.

Wang added that the LMH864 would enable the company to provide customers with more eco-friendly transportation alternatives. He further stated that hydrogen fuel cell technology was ideal for heavy-duty logistics, and the LMH864’s unveiling at CES alongside the company’s range of electric vehicles was eagerly awaited.
