XPO speeds up its transition to sustainable fleet in France with investment in 100 electric Renault trucks

To date, XPO has finalised orders for 65 electric vehicles, with all 100 trucks expected to be delivered by the end of 2024. XPO’s investment comes after the business began testing the all-electric Renault Trucks E-Tech D 16-tonne truck in Lyon and Paris in October 2021. The 16- and 19-tonne commercial trucks will be stationed at 28 XPO less-than-truckload (LTL) facilities in France and will deliver palletised products as partial loads. In France, XPO is the market leader in palletized distribution.

By 2030, the business intends to make around 25% of its deliveries with electric vehicles, saving more than 26,000 tonnes of CO2. XPO has announced that it intends to cut its greenhouse gas emissions in France by at least 25% by 2030, compared to a 2019 baseline.

The Renault Trucks E-Tech trucks are cost-effective, with a loading capacity of 18 to 21 pallets and an 185kW engine. With a range of up to 250km on a single charge, each truck saves CO2 emissions by an estimated 45.7t per year when compared to diesel-powered vehicles. Each vehicle has a 360° camera that decreases blind spots for increased safety.

“We had a positive experience testing the first Renault Trucks electric truck for deliveries in urban areas” said Bruno Kloeckner, managing director, XPO Logistics France. ”Our new order for 100 all-electric trucks is an unprecedented agreement for both XPO and Renault Trucks in France. We have also made a major investment to equip our sites with more than 80 electric charging points.”

Christophe Martin, managing director of Renault Trucks France, added, “We are delighted to contribute to XPO’s energy transition by fulfilling the largest order for Renault Trucks electric trucks in the country. Our relationship with XPO has been built on trust over many years, and is one of the key factors leading to this milestone agreement. Renault Trucks is a sustainability leader in the French market, and as such, we have a duty to lead the way towards sustainable transport.”
