The Austrian Ministry of Climate Protection has initiated the second round of tenders for the “Emission-free Commercial Vehicles and Infrastructure (ENIN)” funding program. With a budget of €28 million, this funding opportunity is available until October 11, 2023. The focus of the programme is to support the transition to non-fossil-powered commercial vehicles and the necessary infrastructure.

This includes battery-electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel cell-driven vehicles, and those utilising overhead line power via pantographs in vehicle classes N1, N2, and N3. Additionally, special vehicles falling within the N2 and N3 categories are eligible for funding, including the conversion of drive trains.

Managed by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), the ENIN initiative aims to significantly accelerate the transition to emission-free commercial vehicles in Austria. A total of €365 million is allocated for this purpose until the end of 2025, with less than half of the budget being distributed in the first two rounds.

In the previous round, the programme received funding commitments of €122 million, resulting in the deployment of 1,685 emission-free commercial vehicles on the roads. This included 1,245 vehicles in class N1 and 440 vehicles in class N2/N3. A total of 98 projects from all federal states were considered.
